BUILT Gold Coast International
An elegant modern staircase with dark timber treads and glass balustrade.
Gold Coast International Hotel Refurbishment at 7 Staghorn Ave, Surfers Paradise.
The design brief required a long straight flight of stairs reaching over a long water feature in a single span. Together with our design partners g+a Architects and Facet Engineering we decided on using a pair of PFC stringers with plate steel tread supports forming a ladder frame. The open PFC face was closed by a colour matched panel supporting the cantilever glass balustrade.
(Now called QT Gold Coast)
Stringer Construction: 300 PFC stringers supporting 10 mm steel tread plates. Open face closed with inset MDF panels both painted in gloss black. Steel components required a zinc rich primer due to coastal location and nearby water feature.
Treads: Pre-finished select grade American Oak treads fully enclosing the 10 mm steel tread plates, each with two rebated Asbraloy ACS-20 silver grey non-slip strips.
Balustrade: Cantilever 17 mm clear toughened laminated glass panels fixed to stringer and/or void edge by stainless Arden A50 patch fittings and continuous 50mm American Oak dowel handrail supported on 50x12 stainless ribbon fixed to glass by Arden A50 Patch fittings.
